Democrats Act on What ‘TEA’ Really Stands For
While Republicans stage mis-named protests on tax day, Democrats are busy making a real impact where America needs it most
Portland – On April 15th, better known as Tax Day to most Americans, the Democratic Party of Oregon is calling for special donations to the Oregon Food Bank.
The donations most needed are, in fact, T-E-A:
‘T’ for toiletries and household items,
‘E’ for Every kind of rice and pasta, and
‘A’ for Anything canned, especially protein.
The DPO’s call to action is a response to Republicans’ “Tax Day Tea Parties,” which aim for a public display of their party’s patent dislike for all taxes.
Named inappropriately for the Boston Tea Party of 1773, which protested Britain’s taxation of the colonies without representation, these “tea parties” appear petty and ill-timed next to the hardships many Americans are facing.
“While Republicans are busy saying 'no' to Democratic solutions and presenting zero ideas of their own, Democrats everywhere are choosing to do something positive that will actually help our communities where they need it most,” says Meredith Wood Smith, statewide Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon.
What Oregonians need right now is solidarity, help, compassion, and patriotism. In the face of bitter, baseless Republican protests, Democrats are calling on everyone with compassion in their hearts to make an immediate, positive impact by donating food and other items to one of the Oregon Food Bank’s regional centers, or to your local food bank or pantry.
